Town Diary - June 2000
Barkhamsted Senior Center dedication for the new addition.
On Sunday,
June 11, a dedication ceremony and open house was held at the Barkhamsted Senior
Center for the new addition completed in February 2000. A short ceremony was
held with some words from local and state officials who helped with the project.
The photo below shows the original Senior Center building (on the right) and
the new addition (the portion on the left with the cupola). The small building
at the far left is a small garage that may be dismantled soon. The Senior
Center is located on West River Road about a mile north of Pleasant Valley.
The parking lot was expanded in May 2000.
The photo below shows Barkhamsted First Selectman Mike Fox opening the day's
ceremonies.

In the photo below, former First Selectwoman Camy Lattizori remarks on the success
of the Senior Center addition. Mrs. Lattizori was instrumental in getting
the Senior Center established in Barkhamsted.

The new addition is very spacious and is put to multiple uses by the Seniors
and other organizations such as the Historical Society and Garden Club. Included
in the addition are expanded kitchen facilities. The construction for the
new addition was financed with a $225,000 Small Cities Community Development block
grant obtained in February 1998. Live music and refreshments were enjoyed
by all after the dedication ceremony.
