Town Diary - April 2001
Easter Sunrise Service at Beech Rock.
Each year, congregations from three area churches combine for
an Easter sunrise service at Beech Rock overlooking the Barkhamsted Reservoir.
On Sunday, April 15, 2001, members of the Barkhamsted Center Congregational Church,
Pleasant Valley Methodist Church and New Hartford's North Congregational Church
walked up the path to the ledge known as Beech Rock and watched a glorious sunrise
and participated in a service led by Greg Dawson, pastor of North Church.
About 35 people attended this year's service.

of the reservoir.
One person attending the service said she has been coming just
about every year since 1947. Beech Rock is located in central Barkhamsted,
accessible by a short path through the woods from Beech Rock Road just above Saville
Dam. The walk to the top of the rock takes just a few minutes, but is on very
uneven ground and can be difficult for older people. For that reason, during
some years the service is held in the parking lot at the east end of Saville Dam.

This year, those who made the short climb were rewarded with
a spectacular sunrise and an inspirational service.
